Art abounds in Apollo Bay

It is the majestic Otways rolling down to the ocean that draws artists and other creatives from around the world to admire its beauty and seek inspiration from its unique wildness. The lucky ones get to call this magical place home.
Apollo Bay with its stunning harbour still alive with working fishing boats and a fisherman’s co-op features in many paintings and photographs of the region. Apollo Bay has inspired photographers for decades. Older photos ranging back to the first settlers in the town can be seen in The Apollo Bay Museum and even early artworks and crafts. An early piece of Apollo Bay artwork titled From Cawood’s Paddock [artist unknown], as captured above, shows just how early artists began capturing the beauty of the area.
Inspired but needing a few skills Marrar Woorn Community House offers a range of courses from Open Studios Art Group to Dances to Mind Your Groove. It is an excellent place to learn and make new friends in the community.
Apollo Bay Arts Apollo Bay Arts is the true home of the arts in the region. Formed back in 1985 by local artists and citizens to ensure that Apollo Bay had access to performance and exhibitions and to create a cultural space. Check out their website for future solos and group exhibitions to be held in the beautiful gallery in the Mechanics Hall. They also host the long running Apollo Bay Art Show in Easter at the Community Centre.
For those of a literary bent Apollo Bay Arts brings you Apollo Bay Wordfest a fabulous celebration of the written word. Pop the dates in your diary July 26th - 28th. Hosting a host of authors and events it’s a great opportunity to meet your favourite writer and explore your own literary talents. A must do event is Poetry and Pies, a stand-up poetry event with a warming winter pie.
No matter what the season Apollo Bay and its beautiful surrounds will draw you in and inspire your creativity.
